What does “new” mean for new online casinos?
Operators use the word loosely, and the difference changes how much history you can check.
- New brand: a name that did not exist before, usually run by a company with a track record elsewhere or by a start-up with none.
- New licence: a known brand whose operating company holds a freshly issued licence, for example after a change of owner or structure.
- Relaunch: an older site with a new design, domain or platform and the same company behind it.
A regulator’s register shows a licence start date, not a brand’s age. The Gambling Commission register entry we read on 24 October 2026 lists Midnite’s operating company with a remote licence active since 11 August 2026, and the same register lists the midnite.com domain under a second company account as well. We did not investigate why. It shows that a recent licence date can reflect a change of operator and does not prove a first launch.
How do you verify a new casino’s licence?
Do this before you enter any payment details, and do it from the regulator’s site, never from a link on the casino.
- Find the licensee’s name and licence reference in the casino’s footer.
- Open your regulator’s public register in a separate tab and search for that name.
- Confirm the licence is active and covers casino games.
- Check that the casino’s web address appears in the licence’s domain list, if the register shows one.
- Compare the company name in the footer, the terms and the register. They should be identical.
The domain list matters. On the register page we read for LeoVegas Gaming PLC, one web address is listed as active and another as inactive, so the same brand name can sit on addresses the licence does and does not cover. If a casino’s address is missing from the list, put the question to the operator and wait for a written answer before depositing.
What does a licence check look like in November 2026?
The table below is a worked example, not a list of recent launches. It shows nine established brands that hold an active remote casino licence on the UK Gambling Commission register and also appear in the iGaming Ontario operator directory, both read on 24 October 2026. “UKGC licensee · account” is the company and account number from the register, “iGaming Ontario” shows whether the directory lists the brand, and “Est.” is blank for every row because we found no launch year on a page we could open.
Use it to see what a match looks like: a named company, a number, an active status. Your own regulator’s register works the same way, and a brand you are weighing should give you the same three details.

Who owns the casino, and why does it matter?
A licence belongs to a company, and one company often holds the licence for several brands. In the table, Betway, JackpotCity and Spin Casino all sit under the same licensee and account number, and Videoslots and Mr Vegas share another. A new brand under an established licensee inherits that company’s compliance record. A new brand under a company you cannot find on any register has nothing behind it yet.
Look for a registered company name, a registered address and a contact route that does not end at a web form. Some operators publish a parent group on their about page, and some do not. Where a page names the group, search for the group; where it does not, treat the missing line as information.
What should the payout terms say?
Read the withdrawal policy before you read anything else, because it shows how the operator behaves when you want money out. A usable policy states the processing time, whether there is a pending period before approval, which days it processes requests, any minimum or maximum and any fee.

- No licensee name, or a name that returns nothing on the register.
- A licence number that resolves to a different company than the one in the terms.
- Terms and FAQ that contradict each other. On pages we read on 24 October 2026, one casino’s terms say it does not process withdrawals at weekends while its FAQ says it does.
- Inconsistent claims about the product, such as a home page that says “400-plus” games and a footer that says “over 100”.
- A footer that names one registered location while the terms name another.
- No responsible gambling tools, or tools that do not include limits and self-exclusion.
One mismatch is a reason to ask support a direct question. Several together are a reason to stop.
What should you do before your first deposit?
